New York At Last! Then to Half Moon Bay on the Hudson

WE PASSED THIS LIGHTHOUSE ENTERING NEW YORK HARBOR

Pulled up anchor at 7:20 a.m. at Sandy Hook thinking we would be ahead of the traffic in New York Harbor. NOT!
Holy smokes!! The ferries, barges, tour boats, water taxis and charter fishing boats are going in every which direction.  Along with an incoming tide, swift current and boat wakes, Lee is doing an amazing job of transiting the harbor as I snap photos left and right hoping for that perfect shot of everything I lay my eyes on.  We go under the Verrazano Bridge as we enter the harbor.

Soon we see the Statue of Liberty straight ahead.  Security helicopters circle above.  This is the first time Lee has seen her.  I saw her first in 2004 when visiting NYC with my best friend, Linda.  To cruise past her in Shangri-La is an entirely different and thrilling sight!

In trying to position myself on the cockpit for a great shot of Lady Liberty, we are suddenly waked by another boat and I lost my footing, nearly falling over the back rail.  Whew!  Close call!  But I got my best shot of her!

With the excitement of this sight still lingering, we continue down the Hudson River through the city, taking photos of all we see. The Freedom Tower is an especially moving sight.  Ellis Island and various places we pass are certainly photo worthy.  In the coming days we will take the train from our marina at Half Moon Bay into NYC for a visit.  Stay tuned.

BEAUTIFUL BANKS OF THE HUDSON
We continue on up the Hudson leaving the boat traffic and popular sights behind us as we head to Half Moon Bay Marina, our home for a few weeks.  We pass under The George Washington Bridge and the Tappan Zee bridges which cross from New Jersey to New York.

30 minutes from the Tappan Zee we pull into Half Moon Bay Marina in a small cove on the Hudson River.

AND, YES, THERE ARE BEAUTIFUL SUNSETS HERE

We pull up to a face dock where, again, there is no water available.  The mid April winter storm froze the water lines on the docks.  Steve, the dock master, comes to greet us and apologizes for the situation, but he will do his best to accommodate us in every way, including taking our laundry into town to be washed, dried, folded and returned to Shangri-La.  He will drive us wherever we'd like to go and recommended great restaurants in the area.

A couple days after our arrival Steve came down the dock dragging a 500' garden hose hooked up from the marina office so we could have fresh water.  What a guy.  As more boaters showed up, he'd attach more connectors so they, too, would have water if needed.  He really tried his best.

We never know what a day will bring.  Today is always different that yesterday.
